Suite Saturday: Get These Invitations Before They're Gone!

It's Not a Party without Stationery from Bella Ink Designs

Bella Ink Designs' 2014 party invitations and greetings are a vibrant mix of color and pattern, a signature of our #GIRLBOSS, Melissa Danaher.  She's been loving the DIY tassel banners showing up on wedding blogs and Pinterest, and incorporated the idea into her newest invitations and greetings. 

If you're feeling confident about your DIY skills and want to create a tassel banner of your own, check out this instructional video on YouTube.  If not, you can always hit up Etsy's artisans and have a banner delivered right to your door.  EverlyLaneDesign offers boatloads of fun garland designs, and the option to customize one of your own.

Suite Saturday: Get Set for Your Event

Woodland weddings inspired this series of Spring/Summer 2014 invitations from Bella Ink Designs.  Each invitation is shown with corresponding notes and response/table cards that will set the tone for any rustic event, whether it's in a barn, by a lake or at the city's hip new eatery.

Bella Ink is embracing the rainbow hued bridal party trend by incorporating a variety of vibrant colors on each Spring/Summer 2014 invitation.  Pinks mix with hot oranges, and sunshiny yellows mesh with aquas and orchids.  Be sure to visit the Bella Ink website and check out WH-75, too.  This bridal shower invitation is a simple blue and white design featuring a bride and her bouquet, which is bursting with color.

In addition to wildflowers, take a cue from these invitations and incorporate feathers into bouquets, boutonnieres, and other floral arrangements for the big day.  And remember, wedding invitations should match the bride and groom's vision and personality, even if that means building a suite of stationery that's  a little less traditional.  It will make complete sense to those who know them well.

Suite Saturday: Get Set for Your Event

If you've picked purple as one of your event's colors, then you're in good company.  Purple has been a color used by royals since antiquity.  Bella Ink has several invitations in varying shades of this high-end hue to suit your event, be it in a garden or a ballroom.

Thursday's starfish invitation suite on the Bella Ink Instagram (bellainkdesigns) inspired us to show off a few more of our favorite combos in a new feature called Suite Saturday.  Whether you're a beach bride, a traditional bride, a vintage bride, a modern bride or a whimsical bride, Bella Ink has a suite to make your event sparkle.  (The hand-applied glitter may have something to do it with it, too...)

...Anything but red.  It may be red rose day, but we at Bella Ink prefer pink, orange, blue and green.  We have nothing against the classic red rose, but our romantic designs, painted in watercolors, or hand-drawn by President and Designer Melissa Danaher, call for a softer hue.

Making Bella Ink Blush

White is always nice for a wedding dress, but these days the gals in the Bella Ink studio feels there's nothing better than a bride in blush.  This hint of color livens up, and compliments, a variety of complexions.  Mix blush with black and cream flowers and decor, as well as the new trend towards rose gold jewelry, and your big day will give off all sorts of sophisticated and romantic vibes.

Don't be afraid to mix it up with your wedding suite.  Coordinating, rather than matching, designs is a creative and memorable approach to your event's look.  An elegant black and cream invitation with just a hint of blush is all you need to tie everything together on paper.  And don't forget to have a little fun with your thank you notes.  The chevron print, above, emphasizes the pink and sage accents form the invitation, while the response/table card focuses on the green, only.

An Inviting Solution to Multiple Hostesses

At Bella Ink, we've seen the number of hostesses for bridal and baby showers go up significantly over the years.  And they all need credit where credit is due... on the invitation.

Faced with eight hostess names and all the important who, what, where and when details of an event, Paper Paper in Solana Beach, California, came up with a darling solution.  Playing off the teacup on Bella Ink's WCH-26, the team at Paper Paper printed the hostess names on vellum, which was then cut it into the shape of a tea bag and affixed to the invitation with string.

With Downton Abbey moving into the '20s, and The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, in post production, I'm willing to bet there's going to be a surge in art deco inspired weddings.  Big bands will play, champagne will flow into saucers instead of flutes, and brides will wear vintage inspired gowns.  Luckily these items are readily available.

One of my favorite places to ogle vintage engagement rings is Erstwhile Jewelry.  Their shop and blog feature unique pieces for both bridal and everyday wear.

BHLDN is a fabulous source for vintage inspired gowns designed by Anna Sui, Catherine Deane,  and Va Et Vien.  Alfred Angelo (above) and other designers, such as Carol Hannah (a former Project Runway contestant), offer beautiful gowns with a whisper of the past in their lines.

Inspired By: Bouquets of Wildflowers

You can find inspiration for rustic barn receptions, lakeside nuptials and wooded weddings on many blogs these days.  These real life weddings often feature bouquets that go beyond the rose and the ever popular calla lily.  While roses may be a staple, you won't find them mingling with baby's breath in modern arrangements, and calla lilies don't seem to stand on their own anymore.  Brides and florists are incorporating more interesting blooms into their bouquets, lending them to the unique venues and themes through which they're being carried.

Bella Ink is always inspired by what's in fashion in the design world, which, to us, encompasses everything from fashion to floral arranging, as well as home decor, architecture and art.  While we have classic blooms on many of our wedding invitations, including iconic cherry blossoms, we're crushing big time on our wildflower inspired invite, pictured alongside some of our favorite bouquets.  We're also crushing on Amy Merrick's floral arrangements (above and below), and think you need to head over to her website and blog for more inspired design.

The Sweetest Thing

Chocolate-themed bachelortette parties and showers (baby or bridal) are a sweet treat for guests as well as the guest of honor.  This Bella Ink gal has been to a couple such events and would willfully trade in a night of champagne or an afternoon of tea sandwiches and salads for decadent chocolate treats any day.  Chocolate tours and fondue parties at chocolate shoppes are unique enough to get guests excited for something they've done a million times before.

Chicago Chocolate Tours with Valerie Beck will take your group to various sweet locales around Chicago's Mag Mile and Gold Coast.  These day trips are a great way to celebrate a bride-to-be whether you intend to hit the clubs at night or not.  I have a major sweet tooth and, because of this tour, I am now addicted to Lindt's Cherry & Chili chocolate bar and Godiva's Dark Chocolate Decadence and Dark Chocolate Raspberry shakes.

At Le Chocolat du Bouchard (Naperville, IL) you can get drunk on chocolate instead of liquor, which is perfect if you're throwing a baby shower.  The mom-to-be and her guests can order up virgin chocolate martinis and exotic hot chocolates from the drink menu downstairs.  The lofted party space is where the action really happens, though.  The shoppe's fondue party menu provides guests with a variety of fruits, cookies, cakes and other sweet treats for dipping.  Mini martini glasses and coffee cups are set out next to the fondue pot so guests can bring treats back to their table where double dipping is perfectly acceptable.

If you don't have a special occasion to shop for, or an event to attend or host, you can head over to Le Chocolat du Bouchard for dessert after dinner out on the town.  Once they open their cafe next door, that chocolate martini won't have to be a virgin and you'll be able to get something more savory than a slice of cake.  By the way, we know where they hide the cakes... in a room just off the upstairs party space.  I'd hate to be the one sent to bring a cake down two flights of stairs, though!

If you want try your hand at throwing a chocolate fondue party at home, try this recipe from Lindt Here.  You can dip just about anything into chocolate.  If you're feeling adventurous, you can even try bacon!

She Weds by the Seashore

For couples choosing to marry at the beach, Bella Ink Designs offers several invitations and invitation suites inspired by the sea.  Our newest seaworthy invitation, Just the Two of Us (above left), is a bit weather worn, just like the homes facing the salty sea air on a daily basis.  A pair of seahorses sit atop the text box, drawing the eye down to the event's important who, what, where and when details.  The soothing color palette on this invitation gives it a beachy elegance, allowing it to be used for the ceremony itself.

A wedding that takes place on the beach can look just as elegant as one that takes place inside a ballroom.  A cream and green color palette looks stunning next to the raw elements of nature.  We particularly like this J.Crew bridesmaids dress (bottom left) because it reminds us sea-glass.  A short little white dress, like this one by RED Valentino (top right), would be perfect for the rehearsal.  To make guests more comfortable at both the ceremony and the reception, consider purchasing flip flops in your colors and setting them out in baskets... just in case someone didn't make a smart shoe choice for the beach.
